Welcome to the 3rd Season of the Lambton MainStreet Players!!!
It's
economic development with an entertaining twist! The Sarnia-Lambton
Business Development Corporation (SLBDC) has hired a troupe
of five college and high school students who will be "bringing
a little bit of Broadway to Main Street" this summer.
Lambton MainStreet Players is made up of performing arts
students who will be singing, dancing and acting in the downtown
business communities of Sarnia-Lambton, performing in parking
lots and on sidewalks. Kai Arnel, Sara Joy, Jessica Little, Tara
Norman and Chris Westaway are rehearsing their variety show. With
some pop music, show tunes, comedy sketches and even some rap,
these triple threat talents will be attracting shoppers and tourists
to Lambton County's towns, villages and hamlets, as well as Sarnia's
Riverfront District and Mitton Village.
Economic developers can see the benefits of cultural attractions.
Recent studies have shown that when a community offers cultural
attractions, population increases, resulting in economic prosperity.
Thirdly, youth retention is an important economic development
goal. Sarnia-Lambton has been losing young people at an alarming
rate: between 2000 and 2006, the number of young people in the
20 to 35 age group fell by nearly 7%. By providing summer employment
which is not otherwise available here, these young people may
return upon graduation and bring their talent back home.
Many businesses and organizations have supported Lambton MainStreet
Players, including Forest Community Theatre, The County of
Lambton, The Village of Point Edward, The Ontario Cultural Attractions
Fund, and The ArtsVest program of the Council for Business and
the Arts in Canada. Business sponsors include Klondyke Trailer
Park near Grand Bend and Wallis Pontiac Buick GMC. Wallis Motors
is providing a vehicle for the troupe to travel around Lambton
County.
The Lambton MainStreet Players will also be featuring Darryl
Heater as the Sound Technicia, Tia Colborne as the Choreographer
and Andrew Colborne as the Music Director.
Watch for the brochure listing when and where the Lambton MainStreet
Players will be performing, and come out and see the show.
The troupe will be on the road to every Lambton community from
Grand Bend to Sombra, Point Edward to Rutherford and all points
in between.
